Designer Jeans Make You Feel Fabulous

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

In a recent series of focus groups conducted for the The Designer Jean Company, women were asked one very specific question, How important are your designer jeans to you? Answers were a rating on a scale of 1 to 10. 1 being the least important, I could care less. A 10 rating meant that is was of the utmost importance. The average rating was an 8.4.

Some might feel this level of significance might be more applicable when referring to a house, job, or even our kids, for example. But for those of us who have experienced authentic designer jeans, this makes perfect sense. We NEED them. They are a must-have staple in a wardrobe that can take us from a lunch date, to a soccer-mom outing, to a hot evening out on the town. Our designer jeans can carry us anywhere, with the exception of perhaps weddings and funerals "two of the only places they are probably not appropriate.

There is nothing like that feeling when you're in one of your favorite pairs of designer jeans, and heading out the door I am beautiful!', I am sexy!', I am ready to take on the world!', I am skinnier than I thought I was last night!'. Once you've got the right designer jeans, the rest of the outfit just comes together. All the way down to the shoes whether it is a pair of hot heels, or a comfy pair of Skechers. It all works and looks great.

In the end, there is a very simple explanation for our addiction to designer jeans. It is all about looking fabulous and being comfortable at the same time. This is something that we do for ourselves, and darn it we deserve it! While a compliment from a husband, boyfriend or even other women who notice how cute we look in our designer jeans is always appreciated, it actually isn't about that. We don't really need that validation. It's about feeling special, beautiful and confident. It's about feeling ready to take on the world. It's about doing something for ourselves. It's about knowing that even though you aren't living in a castle in the French countryside with Brad Pitt (hello Angelina Jolie), you can still spoil yourself a bit.

Book Review - Character Under Attack & What You Can Do About It - By Carl Sommer

AppId is over the quota

How to Counteract the Attack on Character in Today's Society

A drift from the core values on which our country was founded has produced a moral decline in our country. Carl Sommer attributes this decline to the fact that character is under attack in our nation. In his new book "Character Under Attack & What You Can Do about It" Carl Sommer considers the spirit of America's founding fathers in light of today's climate of violent crime, the increase in prison population, and the philosophical battle and cultural war being raged in the political arena.

Sommer observes; there was a time when Americans took pride in their moral heritage. In recent years there has been an erosion of values which has serious implications for both our schools and society. Sommer quotes from scholars, philosophers, educators, politicians, and theologians to present his case for a return to an emphasis on character programs and traditional values in the curriculum of our schools.

Sommer talks about four keys to successful schools. He introduces four model schools that are making effective inroads into making this difference. He then offers "Action Steps" for educators, parents, and concerned citizens to affect positive results.

Sommer writes out of a genuine concern for the direction American education is taking. At some length he points out how publishers and reviewer of his books have downplayed, critiqued unfairly, or ignored the significance of his published works which are widely read, highly acclaimed and have received commendations by others. He is articulate in communicating this concern and speaks for millions of concerned Americans.

"Character Under Attack" is well researched and thoroughly documented.
This book is timely and important and should be in read by every concerned parent, school administrator, librarian, and our elected officials.

Fragmented Frames - Reflections of an Indian Film Critic

Book: Fragmented Frames
Author: Bhawana Somayya
ISBN: 9788122310160
Page: 320
Price: INR 395
Publisher: Pustak Mahal

If you are a Indian cinema buff and interested to know interesting and authentic behind-the-camera-scenes, you will most likely gravitate towards a book that has been written by someone who has intimately known the Indian film industry -Bollywood- for close to thirty years.
Instinct will make you look for pictures first and no matter how much of a fan one is of Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwaryya Rai and Hritik Roshan or say even John Abraham, you will almost predictably stop at the pictures of the soulful Suraiya or Madhubala, the girl with the most dazzling smile ever.

And the book has some amazing pictures, like the one of Ajit and Dilip Kumar in Naya Daur, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bhaduri in Abhiman or the photograph of Dadasaheb Phalke (even film buffs would not be able to identify the father of Indian cinema so easily).

But that's not all. Cut to a picture of today's Smriti Irani, in the age defying saga of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, pointing a gun and eventually killing her 'bad' son and winning the battle of the TV's TRPs. And we are okay with these pictures of being in black and white, because we are happy to then settle down with a cup of tea to read the essays about the movies and movie stars.

Apart from topical essays about the changing roles of women in films to complicated relationships between the older hero and a very young heroine, the book narrates touching, brave moments from Yash Johar's last days, a lovely story about the Rishi Kapoor-Neetu Singh romance, commentaries on the tragic lives of Mubarak Begum (who is famous for her song Mujhko Apne Gale Laga Lo from Hamrahi), OP Nayyar and Dadasaheb Phalke (who died almost unknown, in poverty).

Pity, the editors of the book faulted on paying attention to the grammar (lines like 'Devika Rani, an affluent widow and childless' on page 20, 'unashamed to crumble down' on page 76 and 'irrespective of all the hooplas' on page 80, jar the senses) or did not bother to find synonyms for the word haunt that appeared at least 15 times in the book.

Hair Loss No More Book Review

AppId is over the quota

Hair Loss No More author Jonathon E. Phillips is a leading hair loss analyst who has helped many people including celebrities and sports personalities to combat hair loss.

His extensive experience has enabled him to put together a 168 page ebook which provides a solid education in the way hair grows, why it stops growing, and a whole body approach to minimizing the effects of hair loss and promoting new hair growth.

Hair loss is suffered by millions of men and women the world over, hence, the insatiable appetite for trying anything that claims to stop hair loss and get hair to regrow. Therein lies the danger. This desperate mindset can lead many an unsuspecting consumer into parting with their money for very dubious hair loss remedies.

In Hair Loss No More the author approaches the subject of hair loss in 3 parts.

Part 1 provides an in-depth background of the hair growth mechanism and the main causes of hair loss in men and women.

An interesting section on hair shampoo gives a warning against alkaline based shampoos which can give the appearance of more body and volume but which actually are only of cosmetic value and in some cases they can even damage the hair.

Part 2 is the main section of the book introducing what the author terms a revolutionary Step-By-Step Hair Power Regimen.

Mr. Phillips firmly believes in controlling hair loss from within rather than hoping a magic potion or even a prescription drug will solve the problem. His reasoning makes much sense.

Proper attention to diet, nutrition, regular exercise, and proper breathing are all involved in making sure the scalp gets what it needs to supply the hair follicles responsible for hair growth.

Part 3 goes into detail on modern hair replacement techniques and procedures. If you have any questions about hair transplantation you will no doubt find the answers here.

Finally an Appendix section provides additional resources for keeping the body in a healthy condition with emphasis on coping with stress and learning how to relax.

I personally found the second section on the Hair Power Regimen very helpful. I practice the exercise program outlined in this book and it certainly does much for blood circulation and a general feeling of well-being.

As hair follicles rely on a healthy blood supply delivering the nutrients they need, it is crucial we do everything possible to make sure our diet supports healthy blood and we avoid a sedentary lifestyle and smoking which can have such an adverse impact on our circulatory system.

Background on Rogaine

One very interesting section in this book gives a detailed background to the launch of Rogaine, the hair growth medication approved by the FDA back in 1988. The sales of this drug have been nothing short of phenomenal making billions of dollars for the companies involved.

Not so well known is the fact that comments were made both by the pharmaceutical company representatives and doctors on the advisory board which appeared before the FDA to the effect that this was not a breakthrough medical discovery and the results vary greatly.

However, due to the public's desperation for a remedy and the media spotlight on this product, sales continue to go through the roof. Mr. Phillips provides documentation to substantiate his observations. Certainly the product helps many with hair loss but be careful in how the results are interpreted and analyze closely the limitations.

In Conclusion

If you or a loved one are anxious about hair loss then this inexpensive downloadable ebook is certainly a worthy read.

It provides common sense, practical steps anyone can take to control hair loss and promote healthy hair growth without having to dip deep into the pocket. A welcome change indeed when it comes to the hair loss industry!

Thicker Than Water

I am really excited to get to start this, as a writer and a disturbed lover of books there is nothing more then I adore then sharing that joy with you guys.

And so we bring unto you, the Staff Picks Book Selection.

Over the weekend I had the pleasure of relaxing in a hotel with my mom and our puppy, *damn near full grown dog Whalley* and since we did not take part in the spa or the gym, *as if* I decided to read. Mom had brought me this book called Thicker Than Water by Carla Jablonski. At first I was thrilled, a new vampire book sweet, I love them as anyone at Black Bond Books in Surrey Central can tell you I inhale vampire novels like most normal people inhale air.

Unfortunately there are a lot of great novels out there that BB just doesn't have yet, *mainly because they haven't been written yet* Thicker than Water is not actually a vampire novel, it's a lifestyle novel.

In this book we follow the young impressionable Kia as she delves into the vampire subculture, into the world of Goth and beyond whilst trying to deal with her dying mother, her absentee father, and friends that just don't get it, no matter how hard they try.

It's a truly touching story, Kia is a cutter, a Goth and a lost teenager, although Carla is a little bit older then her teens, she has certainly managed to open up the world of Goth and self mutilation.

This is a book is definitely a good read for any parent, who may be un-certain or un-aware of what their kid may be going through. It isn't a how to guide on how to raise your Gothic child; this is it a truly touching story, and if you take it for what it is, it just may help you understand your teen a bit better.

I give this book 5 star, reads for a kid, but knowledge for the ages, well done!

Book Review: The 4 Hour Workweek - Expanded and Updated by Timothy Ferriss

There are a lot of these motivational books that are all about how to change your lifestyles and gain success in the future. Many of them do not deliver results. The few that do work need to be searched for, one of them is the 'The 4-Hour Workweek'. This is a must read for all those who wish to see a difference in their lives.

Although the name of the book may give you ideas of gaining a lot of money in a short amount of time, you are mistaken. This book is not about getting rich and retiring at the age of 30. It is all about living everyday with satisfaction that you have done everything to your full potential while constantly learning to enjoy yourselves instead of putting off all the fun until retirement when you will be too old to fully enjoy life. The basic idea is that, if you are able to both work remotely and work flexible hours (doesn't matter what profession you're in), than you can eventually apply the rules in this book to your life.

The book preaches several key principles to achieving an ideal lifestyle that allows you to do what you love without becoming a millionaire:

1. Keep your demands from life as minimal as possible. What it means that one must learn to lead a simple life without the desire to make unnecessary demands from yourselves. It has been proven by countless studies that those people who are always content with life and have minimal requirements lead happier lives than those who are always after materialistic pleasure.

2. Don't let your work run your life. Instead of working abnormal hours at your work in order to make a lot of money, work as much is necessary to lead your lives to your satisfaction. Job satisfaction is what you actually need not just loads of money. By reducing the time you spend making money, you are freeing up your most valuable resource (time), which is truly limited.

3. Focus on one thing at a time. Don't divert your attention to a lot of things but rather stick to one objective and give it your full attention. This will be much more productive for you and it will give you much more satisfaction.

A fantastic read! - If you want to simplify your life i recommend the 4 hour workweek by Timothy Ferriss, a great read that could also be your escape from the traditional work / retire cycle.

New Book Can Help You Improve Your Relationships

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Have you ever wondered what the other person is really thinking after that first date? Are nice guys losers? What do women really want? You could read what the experts have to say about these subjects or pick up the latest issue of Cosmo. Kat Bourgeois' new book, What Could You Possibly Be Thinking?!! takes a different approach by interviewing people across the country.

Bourgeois went to the field to ask people like you and me these questions and more. She asked the plumber from Texas, the bartender from Delaware, the teacher from Georgia questions about love, dating, and relationships and put them in a refreshingly short easy to read format. The responses often cut right to the heart of the matter. How does ambition, impact male/female relationships? "Men are intimidated by female ambition." Says, Esther, a CEO from Houston, Texas. I also found myself chuckling at many of the responses. Bourgeois asks, Would most men avoid marriage if they could have the benefits of sex and companionship without it? Cynthia from Kansas says, "Hell yes, men would avoid marriage like the plague. It is a necessary evil they have to deal with."

If you liked John Gray's Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, then Bourgeois' book is for you. Find out what men would really change about women and what women would change about men (is it really the toilet seat thing?).

I would recommend this book whether you are married or single. Married couples will find insight into what your spouse might really be thinking about your relationship. I definitely picked up a few insights on how I can improve my marriage. Singles will certainly benefit from the questions and answers on dating. I will be getting copies for my adult children to read.

Kat Bourgeois is well qualified to write this book. She is fascinated by the way people interact with each other. Kat has helped hundreds of people create the career of their dreams and build relationships that enrich their lives.

City Park Urban and Suburban Design - The New Lifestyle Cites - Book Review

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Why is it that so many communities are so perfect, and have all the recreation facilities surrounding where the people live? It makes life more enjoyable, less stressful, and it makes it safer for raising a family as well. People that live in these types of areas are healthier, happier, and they get the exercise they need. The quality of life that is gathered from proper urban development of this type is almost incalculable from a monetary standpoint.

I'd like to introduce you to an expert on the topic, someone that has written a very excellent book, one which I believe everyone in urban planning and design should read. Also for those folks that are building master planned communities which include recreational facilities, parks, and so forth need to take a gander at this book. The name of the work is;

"Recreational Planning and Design," by Seymour Gold, 1980

The author Seymour M. Gold has a PhD in urban and residential planning from the University of California at Davis, where he specializes in environmental planning. The book goes through the history of how these types of communities have come forth in America. In this book he takes us from the 1600s to 1980. Chapters;

1600-16 14 Boston Commons1700 to 1712 municipal Forest in New Hampshire1800 to 1850 Chicago ParkCentral Park in the 1840sGolden gate Park in 1865By the 1880s these types of communities became commonplace
The history in and of itself is totally fascinating and interesting, but when it is put into a modern context Mr. Gold literally explains how to make the magic happen. He speaks about urban planning and population lifecycles and recreation and how they peak over a ten-year period and how they change when couples reach their 40s.

He explains the need for bike paths, horse recreation areas, skateboard parks, field sports, tennis, amphitheaters, parks, and picnic tables, hiking trails. He speaks of private airports, hang gliding, recreational sailing, water features, and the issues with mosquitoes. He even brings us to the present with golfing communities and how to make them work.

He talks also about the negatives when communities are not built correctly; poverty, crime, maintenance costs, pollution, civil disobedience, social class separations, increased rules, over policing, intense taxes, and fees. Thus, this book and research project brings us full circle; past, present, and how to design things better for the future and what to avoid.

Anyone who has a degree in urban planning needs to read this book, along with all the young people growing up now using SimCity design techniques to design our future towns, communities, and cities. Please consider all this.

"Taming The Tiger" by Tony Anthony.

Tony Anthony came and spoke to us during Chaplain's Hour at Inverness Prison a few days ago, and there was a most attentive audience of prisoners, staff and Prison Fellowship visitors. Tony Anthony is the author of the book "Taming The Tiger" and it is basically his life story but well written with page turning detail.

At an early age he was taken from England to China where his grandfather trained and taught him Kung Fu. His description of these eight years is graphic and at times ugly. Returning to England after eight years in china, Tony continued training and teaching in the area of Kung Fu becoming World Champion three times. This gave him a degree of confidence. He became self-assured and physically powerful, and certainly was not a man to be tampered with or ignored if he came to you on business.

Because of his physical abilities he became a bodyguard for various important people ending up looking after the very rich and those attached to Embassies. Following his involvement in some criminal activity in Cyprus he ended up serving a prison sentence in Nicosia's notorious Central Prison. He had no interest whatsoever in anything Christian or even remotely religious. He thought that all there was was him!

With no letters and no visitors, one day he received a letter from a Christian missionary who had read his awful story in the Press. He agreed to see this man called Michael Wright out of the most unusual reasoning, but after weeks of talking with each other he came to know the reality of the forgiveness and love of God. He speaks of Michael Wright loving him like a father and he began to come to love Michael as one of his sons.

Michael had spoken about how in a man's heart there is a hole which only God can fill, and many try to fill it with money, sex, ambition, Tony is not embarrassed or ashamed to speak about tears. Most men cry but not everyone is prepared to admit it. Having been treated like an animal it was now so very different to be treated with respect and love as a human being.

On his release he flew to Heathrow where he was met by caring concerned Christians and over the next months various mature disciples of Jesus Christ kept an eye on this young believer. What had happened was real, and yet Tony did not find it all easy in various challenging walks of life. He found work and after a few years was led into what is called Avanti Ministries, which I am sure you know that Avanti is Italian for "go", and Jesus commanded disciples to go into all the world.

This is a powerful and worthwhile read, not only giving you the background and story and highly interesting character, but also depicting how hard it can be when someone's life is totally transformed and changed by the living God.

Sandy Shaw is Pastor of Nairn Christian Fellowship, Chaplain at Inverness Prison, and Nairn Academy, and serves on The Children's Panel in Scotland, and has travelled extensively over these past years teaching, speaking, in America, Canada, South Africa, Australia, making 12 visits to Israel conducting Tours and Pilgrimages, and most recently in Uganda and Kenya, ministering at Pastors and Leaders Seminars, in the poor areas surrounding Kampala, Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu.

Good Child Guide Review

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

It's not easy to raise a child. Before my children were born, I genuinely thought I would be the ideal caregiver. I had spent a great deal of time with children, as I was a teacher before I had two of my own, and I felt that I had an excellent handle on what would be involved when raising children. I had unlimited patience with children each day at my job, and had a wonderful rapport with the kids I forgot to think about the fact that every child is born with with their own separate personality, and their own particular set of opinions, especially when dealing with their caregivers! In addition, I didn't consider that I would be so exhausted, or that as a stay at home mom, that I would not be able to clock out from my job when the day ended. I wasn't aware that each of these things would frequently leave me with little patience!

It didn't take long for parenting to become difficult for me. It seemed that my oldest was especially challenging. Each time I tried to reason with her to get her to comply,my efforts were not successful. I searched like crazy for answers, but it seemed no matter what I attempted, I either was unable to remain persistent, or she refused to acknowledge what I was trying to do. For some reason, nothing I did appeared to work. Eventually, I got to the place where I hardly ever left the house, as I didn't know what to anticipate from her and her temper tantrums. I felt like a complete failure as a mom.

My frustrations lessened once I read and applied The Good Child Guide. I talk more explicitly on my blog about how it aided how I dealt with situations, and what the impact was. It's definitely worth reading, it completely changed my experience as a mom. I feel like I can enjoy my children in a more positive manner now, from a calmer, less frazzled position. Our lives are not perfect now, but they aren't full of insanity either. If you end up reading the guide, please come back and tell me how it affected your parenting too!

Communion written by Jean Blasiar and Jonathan Marcelle Antoni

Of excellently written story of a young girl that seemingly lost her ability to speak for some unknown reason at a very young age. The story begins in the 1930's and takes place mostly in Ohio. Melanie and Edward Commons brought gem home from the hospital in May of 1937 they had named her Gemini but due to the grandparent's disgust of not giving this beautiful new girl a Christian name, they used "Gem" known for her name. Those grandparents, Abigail and Frederick Commons, especially Abigail, differed as to the name and, as it turned out, almost everything in the life of gem from that day forward. Abigail turned almost anything negative when gem which involved.

The younger Commons moved into the second floor of the grandparents house and the older Commons moved their things to the first floor. In some ways it made things hard living in on old house with squeaky floors and stairs, hearing all kinds of noises where activity occurred, including bedsprings! Edward worked as an assistant baker at the town bakery while Melanie was a part-time art instructor at the local high school and part time as a free lance artist. She what an excellent artist, able to turn any subject into its actual appearance art abilities through her. The big problem being that when Abigail was around gem, she acted like she could see right through her grandmother and from that point on she could not speak no matter who what around. Life went on with the family with Edward away while Melanie tried various sources to find out what might be wrong with gem but no answer was found. The family received a letter saying that Edward was "missing" which devastated the family. As the war went on, gem which placed in schools while her voiceless problem what is still being researched, Melanie went to work in Fred but at aircraft factory what too old to work there, but the uncertain edge still in everyone's mind about the knowledge of where Edward was, if he what alive. Melanie continued her artistry which brought her employers asking her to draw certain things for the interest was effort with the first being a model of Betty Grable on an airplane.

I felt as if he were right there with me in my home through ever step of Life Methods. The direct approach utilized in this work is blunt, truthful and never sugar-coated.

However I'll warn you that it can be difficult to take in initially as it asks you to cope with issues on each level while being utterly truthful with yourself. If you're prepared to reveal deep into your own chaos, the benefits of this book and your tough work will be much more than you may have anticipated. Thru Life Methods, Dr. Phil gives you assignments to finish which will help you through on your journey towards a more complete life. The assignments range between straightforward to complicated yet none are most unlikely to follow through to completion with. Such assignments include a quiz to find out whether your life is in a groove or not and an exercise in pin-pointing the destructive thoughts and comments you tell regularly permit yourself to believe.

I like to recommend employing a spiral notebook as your book for the assignments as you'll need to refer to them later on in the book in order to finish your own personalized life technique. While reading Dr. Phil's Life Techniques, you'll learn "The 10 Laws of Life". According to the book, these are lessons, guides and convictions you want to completely understand life and correctly manage your own life. This book, Life Secrets, actually helped me manage my private life, overcome intense fears, understand my very own feelings and helped me develop my very own life techniques to live by. I just wish you luck on your own journey with Dr. Phil and his Life Secrets on the path to discovering your life plan.

Ready, Set, Green - Eight Weeks to Modern Eco-Living - Book Review

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

I've got to admit that I am usually skeptical about books that show you how to go green. Sometimes the suggestions are so bizarre that you can just about guarantee that no one will be taking them seriously. So you can imagine that I was pleasantly surprised that the book, Ready, Set Green: Eight Weeks to Modern Eco-Living by Graham Hill and Meaghan O'Neill of Treehugger provided many usable suggestions for the greener lifestyle.

The "Save the Planet in 30 Minutes or Less" lists of suggestions, followed by "So You Want to Do More" lists, are extremely user-friendly which can help gain buy in from readers. Symbols are also used to indicate benefits to gain from the efforts. And the benefits aren't just green. They include saving money, saving time, and improving health, too. Brilliant and missing from many other works of the green genre.

The ecofriendly factoid and myth buster box items highlight interesting and useful information. Background data is presented in an informative and less judgmental manner than I have seen in other works. As well, the focus on how it impacts the reader helps drive the points home.

There were really only two issues I had with the book.

First, there was the obligatory ride your bike suggestion. As I am writing this review, it is now 8 degrees Fahrenheit with a predicted high of 14 tomorrow here in Chicago. This one (and walking) usually falls on deaf ears, except in warmer seasons, in climates like this. Additionally, urban sprawl with high speed highways and no bike lanes often makes it a dangerous endeavor, especially in early morning or evening. These types of efforts will require entire community and governmental support to become workable.

Second, many of the products suggested are obscure brands that you will not find at your local Target or grocery store. So if I have to order them and incur shipping costs, both financial and environmental, have we made progress? The limited availability of more earth friendly and socially conscious product choices in highly frequented retail outlets is one of the major challenges to the green consumer movement.

Because of its incredibly user-friendly format and clearly presented and useful information, Ready, Set Green is a must-read for those who want to learn some real world ways to go green.

The Complete Idiot's Guide To Simple Living by Georgene Lockwood

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

In this hustle and bustle time we live in, sometimes it seems that our existence only becomes more complicated as each year passes. With more and more things and experiences to engage in and with, are we really enjoying life and living more? Or do all of the fancy gadgets and widgets and this and that, and gazillions of choices just increasing our stress and making it difficult to actually enjoy the important stuff? If you have asked yourself how to prioritize and then minimize the stuff in your life, or how to earn a life and not just a living, "The Complete Idiot's Guide To Simple Living" by Georgene Lockwood might just be the book to help you set yourself on the path to a more simple, but enjoyable stress free life.

I like this book because it lays out in clear simple language, what simple living is and why it can make your life not only easier, but more enjoyable, enriching, and stress free. (Or at lease reduce the stress you may be experiencing due to the complexities of our modern world)

Part One of the book outlines what simple living is. Chapters focus on consuming passions and how the world became un-simple, simplicity and the spirit, what's old is new again, culture shock regarding lessons from alternative living, and finding your own simple living way.

Part Two it titled Your Money IS Your Life and has chapters on gaining your freedom by going debtless, earning a life, not just a living, the simple truth about where you live, how living with less can mean more, and organizing your finances.

Part Three is about simple living basics. These chapters focus on food, fashion (your clothes), and your home. Very practical ways to live more simple in these areas. There are also chapters on getting off the grid, if you decide that is for you, and a chapter about your automobile.

Part Four, Family, Friends, and Community focuses on simple living and relationships. Learn strategies on raising kids the simple living way, entertainment and recreation, and your circle of community.

The final part of the book, Part Five, What If Everybody Did It, contains chapters that discuss the politics of paring down, new directions in education, living with natural order on our planet, and a definition of rich and how to define wealth for the simple life. There is also an appendix that provides a really good resource guide regarding the topics in the book.

If life is just too chaotic for you these days, and you desire to simplify, the tips, suggestions, and strategies found in "The Complete Idiot's Guide To Simple Living" may be just what you are looking for. It's a good book on paring down and living a simpler life.

Goal Setting Empowers You to Create the Life You Really Want - Take Control of Your Life Today!

Get a Life - The One You Really Want!
If you're wondering how to "get your life together," first remember that everyone has a little room for improvement in their lives. Although it is true that not everyone needs to make a rigorous effort to get everything in their lives under control, most people have a point in their lives when things just seem to completely turn upside-down. This is the time when many people take a look at their lives and decide that something needs to be done.

Do you have any goals? Did you lose sight of them somewhere along the way?
One of the primary complaints of people who feel as though their life needs improving, is that they feel as though they are simply going along, not accomplishing much, and not really making any sort of difference in the world. You undoubtedly had goals at some point in your life...what sort of goals do you have now? If your main goal is to get through the day without screaming at your children or to sit through another boring business meeting without falling asleep, then it may be time to set some more ambitious goals for yourself. After all, if you don't set any goals for yourself, then how will you work towards the things you want to accomplish in life?

Don't avoid your goals because they seem lofty.
People who dream of doing things that not many people get to do for a living - acting, writing, opening their own business, running a large company - often give up their dreams before ever really making an attempt at reaching their goals. Look at it this way; someone has to do these jobs, so why not you? Unless you make a truly determined effort to become what you have always wanted to become, you will never know what could have been. Not all people doing the sort of work you want to do knew that they would eventually be paid for their passions, but most of them put a lot of hard work into getting where they are. Just because someone else may criticize your dreams as impractical, does not mean that your dreams are impossible. Give it a try, see what you might accomplish, and even if you aren't able to attain some of your goals, you will always know that you gave it a shot.

If you start out on a journey in your car, how will you get to where you want to go if you don't have a planned destination in the first place?

Ask Yourself

Are You Satisfied?
Are You Content?
What would make you feel happier with your life?
Are you just sick of your current life?

Don't change your life to mirror someone else's.
Set yourself realistic goals to achieve what you want.
You can't reach a goal if you don't define one.

If you would like to follow this informative self help guide from beginning to end, and empower yourself to take control of your own life, please feel free to read more about this below.

A Literary Gem

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Picture, if you can, the following plot for a novel: The herione of the novel is a transexual named Nickie Farrell who returns to her Northern Virginia alma mater, Windfield, to teach English as an associate professor. It's the college she attended when she was a male. Nickie is unaware that she has a son in a nearby town from an illicit love affair she had during her male undergraduate days. Windfield College was financed and built by Randall Windfield, the sole surviving heir of wealthy Hendrix Windfield III, who had wanted to set up Randall as the successor to run the family empire. But, upon learning that Randall was a homosexual, his father humiliated him at a big dinner party and would likely have disowned him if it weren't for the fact that he and the other siblings died in a plane crash, leaving Randall as the heir.

The person Nickie had the affair with when she was a male and called Nick is Luanne Skinner, wife of ex-policeman James Robert "Jay-Bo" Skinner, who she had a set of twins, a boy and a girl, by at the time of the affair. She loved Nick, and his tender way of love making and that he had one blue and one brown eye. The boy that resulted from the affair, Colin "Collie" Skinner also has two different colored eyes. He can't stand his father's prejudiced, red-necked opinions, though he, himself, has a doesn't like gays, and found it hard to face hearing about his sister's lesbian love affair when she was in the military and her suicide that happened as a result of the news getting out. As you read, you just know that Nickie and Collie are destined to eventually meet. The only question is when, and how each will react to the other.

Also, there's a suspenseful subplot involving Ambassador Eamon Douglass, who is dying of cancer and who considers himself to be a patriot. He hates the decline he imagines is happening in America, brought about by liberalism, the Jews, the homosexuals, etc., and as a convenient target of his hate and prejudice, he's chosen Windfield College. He hatches the idea to enlist the aid of his old Russian friend, Egor Antonovich, who is an ex-KGB agent, to obtain Cesium 137 and then to sacrifice himself in a suicide bombing at the college.

That's just a brief sketch of the plot. When I read about it prior to reading it, and also read that the author, herself, Iolanthe Woulff, was born a boy and the son of the famous author Herman Woulk, and twenty-five years later underwent gender transition, I thought honestly that the plot was sort of odd and twisted. I thought that despite the author's father being a famous author, also, that there was a good chance the novel would be not that well written and possibly to be crap. On top of these initial feelings, though I have a live and let live attitude about one's sexual preference, I am a heterosexual, and happily married with kids, and I was leery that there might be some graphic sex scenes in the novel and that it'd be some trashy soft-core gay porno novel.

That's me being honest - but, I am glad I read the novel I'm referring to, She's My Dad, and I think it's one of the most literate and well-written books I've read in a long time. Iolanthe Woulff is a remarkable writer who reminds me of a cross between John Irving, at least when I think of his novel The World According to Garp, and Tom Wolfe. The fictional Windfield College is portrayed brilliantly, and the prejudice that some townspeople have towards the college and gays, as personified by colorful and narrow-minded characters like Jay-Bo, Eamon Douglass, and others, is handled deftly.

The title of the novel is not exactly my favorite, but it does reflect Collie's eventual love and acceptance of his father. This is a relatively minor beef, though, as the writing is excellent throughout, and no matter what the subject matter is of a book, that is the most important consideration for me of whether a book is "good" and worth the time spent reading it or not. She's My Dad is a page-turning debut novel, and I hope it gets a wide audience. I'm looking forward to reading more from the talented pen of Iolanthe Woulff in the future.

The 4-Hour Workweek - A Manual For New Productivity Or a Guide to Cheating?

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Timothy Ferriss seems to have mastered the life of leisure and delegation. His product, brainQUICKEN, is run without his direct intervention. He travels the world and has had some fascinating experiences. But many would not call him successful, they would call him shiftless.

In The Four-Hour Workweek, Ferriss shares his life story and lessons he thinks will help you become someone who works the barest minimum necessary to sustain your lifestyle. He provides tips and tricks for getting out of the office and into, well, whatever you want.

Get Creative

But not all of the lessons are very practical. The story of how he won a kickboxing title sums up his philosophy: Ferriss read the rules very carefully and found that if one opponent falls off the platform three times in a match, the other opponent wins be default. Rather than training and working to become the best kickboxer, he endeavored to knock every opponent off the platform three times. His adherence to the letter of the rules, not the intent of the sport, got him a title. But, he freely admits it was a title given grudgingly by the judges.

Work from Home

He suggests that employees who want to use their time more wisely yet continue to collect a paycheck force their employer to allow them to telecommute. When you telecommute, he argues, you can spend the time needed getting the job done, and spend the rest doing what you want. One of the techniques to get your boss to agree to telecommuting is to artificially lower your productivity on days you are in the office. This may not be the most ethical way to get your boss to agree to a telecommuting arrangement, but it is likely to work. Most employees would be reticent to engage in seemingly unethical behavior.

A quick Google search or visit to the book's customer reviews at Amazon will show bloggers and readers who have pointed out a lack of ethics inherent in Ferriss' recommendations, but a lack of ethics is not completely evident in the book. Ferriss takes an interesting way of looking at the rules of the game and uses them to his advantage. He doesn't screw people over to get what he wants; he just exploits flaws in the system to do it.

Will It Work for You?

The value in The 4-Hour Workweek doesn't lie in the specific examples. Instead, you should read the book to shock yourself into thinking differently about the world around you. How can you exploit the loopholes to make your life better and happier? And how can you do it in a way that doesn't violate your personal ethics?

The 4-Hour Workweek is a hard read if you prefer a book with solid linear flow. If you are a chunker who picks and chooses sections based on your needs, however, you will love the book.

The Six Must-Reads For Your Encore Career Bookshelf

People often say that books are like old friends. I'm thinking that sometimes they can be better than old friends, because a good book can offer wise advice, brilliant inspiration, and great ideas without any hidden agenda. Books give us the opportunity to explore a notion in its embryonic form and go deeper if desired.

So, if you're contemplating an encore career and you're in need of reliable guidance, there are six books you simply must read. The first three are foundational:

Your Money or Your Life: 9 Steps to Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Achieving Financial Independence: Revised and Updated for the 21st Century by Vicki Robin & Joe Dominguez with Monique Tilford. How do you know when you have enough money to live the life you most want to be living? The recent update to this first-published in 1992 best-selling classic will help you discover how much is "enough", uncover how you most want to spend your "life energy", learn that you can live well on less, and realize that financial independence is easier to achieve than you think.

Don't Retire, Rewire: 5 Steps to Fulfilling Work That Fuels Your Passion, Suits Your Personality, or Fills Your Pocket by Jeri Sedlar & Rick Miners. Do you know what drives you (or why you really work beyond the money)? This talented husband and wife team found in their extensive research that there are actually 85 different "drivers" for why people work. Knowing yours is a powerful first step in finding meaningful work. A nice balance of down-to-earth, practical advice and real-life stories plus great exercises to help you rewire your thinking and find work that is best suited to your passions and interests.

The Power of Purpose: Find Meaning, Live Longer, Better by Richard J. Leider. How do you live on purpose? What is your purpose? How do you discover it? This recently revised and expanded edition of the best-selling book that was first written nearly 25 years ago explains why having a clearly defined purpose is critical to your success (and longevity) in this next stage of life, Here's the good news -- you already have your purpose within you. The detailed, practical methods for finding your calling will help you access it. The real-life stories will inspire you.

The last three books will give you insight into three possible paths to your encore career:

What Color is Your Parachute? 2010: A Practical Manual for Job-Hunters and Career-Changers by Richard Nelson Bolles. This nearly 40-year-old best-selling bible for job hunters has been updated annually for years, and just keeps getting better and better. If you know your encore career lies within the existing job market, this book is essential. Starting with identifying your strengths and preferences and moving through a step-by-step how-to of job searching in the 21st century, you'll even learn how to find a good job when "there aren't any jobs"!

The E-Myth: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It by Michael E. Gerber. If you are even remotely thinking of starting your own business, don't take another step until you read this book. It's a brilliant primer for how to design your business as a system so you can make your business work without working so hard yourself. E-Myth offers an expanded view of why you want to be in business and a fresh approach to how to get there successfully.

Social Entrepreneurship: What Everyone Needs to Know by David Bornstein and Susan Davis. This book is hot off the presses and the first to give an excellent overview of what being a social entrepreneur is all about. You'll learn what the difference is between a social entrepreneurship and a regular business venture and traditional non-profits. If you think you want to innovate unique social solutions to unique social problems for your encore career, this is the place to start.

Make sure you read the updated versions of the classics named here. These six books will give you a strong foundation and excellent possible paths for your "retirement" career -- your encore career.

Broken wings written by Alexandrea white

Broken wings is a must read as I discovered from the books beginning. Pamela wells recovered, rehabbed, fed, and did anything possible to allow of produced mostly smaller animals get to the point of living a near normal life. She had a small home with some old surrounding buildings both of which she used for the animals, located in a very rural area of New Orleans. Some lived with her in her house while some were in the other buildings or on the loose not wanting to leave Pamela. She what in her 40's and not a well woman having lupus. Most days she what fine but those days when the disease reared up and bit her, she had to take it easy but that what not easy or possible with a very limited budget and only her good friend, Carol Corbin, to relieve her, take care of the books, and help with needed work.

Daniel Phillips drove down the dusty road leading to the "second chance Wildlife Rehabilitation Center" sent by his probation officer to assist in cleaning of encages or any such work needed as part of his agreement with the law. Pamela was caught off guard not expecting Daniel or anyone to assist her center. After some conversation she reluctantly agreed to allow Daniel to stay and help. Pamela what divorced from her first husband, Bob, who what a real blowhard man thinking he was the best thing that had ever happened to Pamela or any other woman he met. He was remarried now but still played around on that wife so. Bob owned part of the nature center and he held that over Pamela thinking he could force her to do what he wanted all the time. When Bob came around, he either wanted something from Pamela or he wanted to cause her trouble. Daniel helped around the center, learning every day he was there. Hey what a bartender in New Orleans but he started to like this assisting with the animals and his personal feelings towards Pamela were giving him a "love tickle" when he saw or thought of her. Daniel was on Iraqi veteran with PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder, which he had been fighting for years. As with Pamela, stress made each of their diseases rear up their ugly heads. This what is not a good situation with Bob around!

The feelings of Daniel and Pamela became very evident and good old Bob knew it so he caused as much trouble as he could for both of them, including their private feelings for each other. Bob wanted Pamela back in his life and proposed to connect promising he would finance all her needs with the rehab center as well as her private life. In order to accomplish this he had to drive a wedge between Daniel and Pamela, which he did every chance he could with them, all their friends, and business colleagues.

You will love this story. The author has mixed love, animals, hate, medical problems, family problems, and so much more that makes broken wings a sensational story. It also gives the reader to insight into what occurs in a rehab facility such as this one that Pamela runs. The animals give her and the readers so much pleasure and many times, laughs.

The complexity of A soldier written by Michelle Bellon

The title of this excellent book tells a lot about the book and its many stories of civilian and military members and families and just how difficult it is to serve in the military, especially in times of was. Rory had married Emily and they introduced Callie into the world and into their lives. Rory had worked on his family farm for years and he finally broke away and took a job in a mill figuring he would like the work better and the hours would allow him better home life. When Rory received his "pink slip" from the mill he what devastated. Rory had always wanted to be a police officer so he applied for the state police school but he changed his mind and decided he would join the army and become a military police officer. Of course Emily of what upset knowing he would be away for quite a while doing his basic training. It of what peacetime still there what no worry in their minds of going to active battle but so that came into the picture. The story takes you back explaining when Rory what younger and the various things that went on at their farm including Rory, his brother, Rodney, his parents, and some other friends.

While in his training, Rory ins?parable met J T and they became friends through basic and after, both becoming MP's. J T even came home with Rory and joined many discussions down memory lane from the families' youth through high school and things that happened after graduation. Rory J T graduated from the army MP school and were elated when they were both assigned to Washington, DC. then September 11, 2001 came and the entire nation what sickened with the terrorism attacks on our nation. This defiant action changed the plans of so many in the entire world, and, in Rory and JT's situation, it sent them into war. They arrived and were both stationed near Baghdad as members of the military security team but they were also given other assignments in Iraq. Rory had a terrible time adjusting without his girls but he was "stuck" after volunteering for the military not knowing that was would break out while he what on active duty.

Patrolling the streets of various Iraqi cities was very dangerous. No one knew when a bomb at RPG, or some other weapon would be in their midst either thrown or one that had been buried to cause destruction and death. Every person, regardless of age, what a suspect. A smile did not always mean friendship. Even though our military did all they could to make friends, especially with the children, there was no safety anywhere. After their year tour what over of duty, they returned home with a completely different mentality than when they had left for Iraq. The jarring that was to go through changed them caused our military both mentally and physically. Their families back home did not know what to expect when greeting them at the airport and when they took them home. J T had met Abby before he left for Iraq so he had someone to love when he got home too.

There is much more to this very good story but I will not give any more of it away so you can enjoy the book. You will definitely enjoy the story. It contains love, relationships, mystery, suicides, humor, and much more. Give it a whirl.

We don't really think about the meaning of flowers today whenever we give them, we just pick out a pretty flower and we give it to someone but actually the real meaning behind flowers and their secret language has been lost.

The Victorians used flowers as a discreet form of communication. During the 18th century sending flower messages based on a Turkish secret language of flowers became popular. This was known as sending a 'Persian Salaam' - a coded bouquet to reveal your feelings of love or attraction. The Victorians became very knowledgeable in flower language and chose and arranged their bouquets carefully.

Of course all flowers deal with love and appreciation in some way or another, but their color or arrangement can mean different things.

For example, back then red roses stood for love as they do today, but yellow roses stood for jealousy. If you sent yellow carnations to someone, it meant you were rejecting them.

The study of the meaning of flowers is an actual science known as floriography, and it reveals an extra underlying meaning to sending or receiving flowers - subtle and secret messages can be passed through the different type of flowers.

"How charmingly a young gentleman can speak to a young lady, and with what eloquent silence in this delightful language."

Many of these secret meanings behind flowers have been forgotten over the centuries, but if there's something you want to say to someone, nothing says it like flowers.

This includes a BONUS CD on the Law of Attraction!

This unique Top rated offering by Esther and Jerry Hicks, who offer the Teachings of Abraham, can help you realize each and every connection you might be presently involved with in addition to each and every connection you've ever experienced is the ultimate lifestyle relationship.

This kind of guide reveals innumerable of false premises which are at the center of each uncomfortable connection concern, and takes you to some apparent knowledge of the effective inventive Vortex which has previously put together the associations you have desired. Abraham will highlight how you can get into this Vortex, in which you can rendezvous with all you desire as well as every person you've already been searching for.

Abraham says: "It is our desire to help you to solve the mystery of those seemingly impossible relationships; to sort out the details of joyously sharing your planet with billions of others; to rediscover the beauty of your differences; and, most of all, to reestablish the most important relationship of all: your relationship with the Eternal, Non-Physical Source that is really you."

"It is our desire that you experience an enhanced appreciation of your planet; your body; your family; your friends; your enemies; your government; your systems; your food; your finances; your animals; your work and your play; your purpose; your Source; your Soul; your past, your future, and your present...."

Lifestyle is set up by how we perceive life. What we want, what we don't want, Law of Attraction brings that to us. If we are focusing on what we don't want, then sure enough, law of attraction will bring the unwanted to us. We can want a great lover, but if we believe that a great lover is not for us, then we will not attract a great lover. We can think we want a great job, but if we believe that we will never have a great job, then law of attraction draws that into our life.

We may think that we want a great job, a great lover or a great opportunity. However, we may be putting out there that, in fact, we believe in the fact that great lovers are hard to find, great opportunities are only found by lucky people and that in fact, we don't deserve any of these gifts of spirit.

As soon as we realize that the most important relationship is between Us and who we really are, we will be well on our way to manifesting excellence, prosperity, health, wellness, peace and love in our lives.

We get so concerned about how we fit into the world, yet, if we only asked, "How am I feeling?" and if the answer is "feeling good" we would know we are tapped into our highest good. If the answer is "not so good" we would know we were not tapped into our highest source, who only works with "good feelings".
